Determine if Someone in Louisiana Is in Violation of Parole or Has Absconded (Fled)

If a person on parole is alleged to have violated the terms or conditions of their parole supervision agreement, the Division of Probation & Parole may request that the Board issue a warrant for the person’s arrest and return to prison.

The individual has the right to a preliminary hearing by an independent hearing officer and the supervising Probation and Parole officer. Here, the person can be represented by an attorney and has the right to offer pleas to the parole violation allegations. A summary of this hearing is forwarded to the Committee on Parole for consideration and decision

If you are looking to find specific information about a parole violator or an absconder, you can use the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision’s Public Web Portal.3 Here, you can search for an offender using their last and first name or Offender ID and State.

A screenshot displaying the ICOTS public web portal from the Interstate Compact Offender Tracking System displays criteria as a search option, such as last name, first name, middle name, state offender ID number, state, and more additional search criteria.

Additional search criteria – like date of birth, gender, race, sending and receiving state, and supervision type (probation or parole) – can be specified. However, this site does not provide information about offenders who have already completed their period of parole or probation supervision.

In Louisiana, if a person violates their probation, a judge will issue a warrant for the violator’s arrest. Once arrested, the probationer may have to wait several days or weeks before being taken in front of a judge. Possible outcomes include finishing the remainder of the sentence in jail or prison, additional fines, counseling, added community service, or a warning.

Find Out Who Is on Probation in Louisiana for Free

People often confuse the meaning of probation for parole. Probation provides alternatives in lieu of serving time in jail. It is an alternative sentence charged to offenders who found guilty of minor offenses.

Parole is designed for convicted offenders who committed more serious crimes. They are ordered to complete full jail time before being released back into the community.

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections provides an online imprisoned person locator using the Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System (LAVNS).9 It serves as a tool to search for convicted offenders under probation as well as those on parole.
